Hotel Hotel, Canberra
This week we visited the nation's capital for festive merriment with our photography brethren, kindly hosted by the legends at All Grown Up Weddings. The trip gave us the perfect excuse for an overnight stay at the very chic Hotel Hotel, a place we've been aching to visit for a long time. There is so much to say about the design and sustainability values of the hotel but we'll let the photos do most of the talking. This is the view from the top of the dramatic Grand Stair which was constructed using recycled timber from a demolished house, a basketball court and off cuts from the Nishi building the hotel resides in.
The lobby area of Hotel Hotel features extensive use of raw materials, such as concrete beams which have been stacked to create the concierge desk.
At Hotel Hotel's Monster Kitchen and Bar seating options range from the subterranean style lobby to an eclectic lounge area
Guests staying at Hotel Hotel have access to ten bikes designed, manufactured and assembled locally by Goodspeed Bicycle Co. Whether the straw covered bike is up for grabs is uncertain but it would make for an interesting ride!
Our room of choice at Hotel Hotel was a Creative Room, equipped with a king bed, an Aesop-stocked bathroom (yes!), a leather lounge and a workstation area. As well as being very stylish all rooms continue the hotel's sustainable mission through the use of light and air con sensors, low energy fittings, and recycled materials. There is also no printed collateral in the rooms with newspapers being supplied via iPad.
If there's one thing we miss the most every time we check out of Hotel Hotel it's the bathroom with underfloor heating and a walk-in rain shower stocked with Aesop goodness!
